The Demons, currently sitting sixth on the A grade netball ladder but just percentage behind Dennington, put in a solid effort all game but fell 24 goals short, defeated 68-44.

In the A reserve match, Timboon went down 21-38 while in B grade the Demons fell just a goal short of a draw, going down 40-41.

In the junior games, the Demons 17 and unders enjoyed a strong win, 50-20 while the 15 and under side lost 20-21 and the 13 and unders worked hard and were rewarded with a 34-7 goal victory.

On the football field, the Demons knew they were going to be in for a tough day against the ladder leaders.

Senior coach Marcus Hickey said his side was simply outclassed on the day, particularly in the midfield where Nirranda was able to get their hands on the ball and make full use of it.

“We had about five players out through injury and player management and that included a couple of our strong midfielders,” Hickey recalled.

“But in saying that, the guys who were out there had a good crack but it was a pretty tough day. We went in knowing we’d be up against it.

“Full credit to Nirranda, they’re a quality side and they really showed our boys the workrate required to be one of the top sides.”

Hickey said the Demons would now move on and were looking forward to this weekend’s home game against Kolora Noorat – a game he believed was a winnable one.

“We’ll get some blokes back this week, handy inclusions, and I’m confident we can win against Power at home,” Hickey said.

Final scores last Saturday were Nirranda 27.14.176 to Timboon 0.3.3.

Among the best for the Demons were Ash Hut, Richie Moorhouse, Will Moorhouse, Eddie Gaut, Rhys Ziegelaar and Samuel Newey.

Nirranda also took home the win in the reserves match, defeating Timboon 15.14.104 to 5.2.32.

Jake Robbins and Patrick Ryan kicked two goals each while Luke Gledhill added one.

Best for the side were Anthony Glennen, Bayley Kelly, Luke Gledhill, Patrick Ryan, Craig Dower and Daniel Shanahan.

Earlier in the day, Timboon’s under 18s fought hard but fell just 19 points short, going down 5.5.35 to 8.6.54.

Best for the Demons were Leroy Steere, Caius Cuthell, Joshua McKenzie, Max Smith, Jasper Makin and Jack Matthews.

Jack Banks, Caius Cuthell, Nathan Ellemor, Jaser Makin and Leroy Steere kicked a goal each.
