Tigers slip out of the five

WOORNDOO Mortlake’s senior football side has slipped out of the top five on the Mininera League ladder after a 111-point loss to Penshurst last weekend.

The Bombers, currently sitting second and a game behind ladder leaders Wickliffe Lake Bolac, proved too strong for the Tigers on the Mortlake ground on Saturday.

While the loss sees them drop to sixth spot, only percentage separates them from Ararat in fifth and Lismore Derrinallum in fourth.

The race to the finals series will be a tightly contested one, with the Tigers left to face the seventh-placed Tatyoon this weekend.

Their remaining games will see them play Hawkesdale Macarthur (third), SMW Rovers (10th), Great Western (9th) and Moyston Willaura (11th).

Final scores were Penshurst 22.22.154 to Woorndoo Mortlake 6.7.43.

Best for the Tigers were Brent Fedley, Jack Richie, Haydn Templeton, Will Templeton and Simon Atkinson.

Richie kicked two goals for the side while Jordan Buckley, Jesse Horan, Tim McIntyre and Damien Pemberton kicked one each.

Earlier in the day, the Tigers’ reserves also struggled against the Bombers; contained to just one goal for the game while the visitors kicked 14.10.94.

Tahi Pompey was the only goal scorer while Jack Clifford, Tyler Schafer, Bryan de Villiers and Josh Mahncke were named in the best.

The day was a successful one for the Tigers on the netball courts, winning all games played.

A grade – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated Penshurst 36-26. Best: Brooke Richardson and Nicole Anderson.

B grade – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated Penshurst 61-25. Best: Shona Makepeace and Letitia Howat.

C grade – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated Penshurst 24-17. Best: Holly Trajcevski and Julia Stern.

18 and under – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated Penshurst 47-20. Best: Lily Schuuring and Lucy Carmody.

15 and under – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated Penshurst 27-17. Best: Ava Wardlaw and Ella McDonald.

13 and under – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated Penshurst 20-12. Best: Rekiah Martin and Billie Carmody.
