Students learn from the best
TIMBOON P-12 School Year 8 students paid a visit to Apostle Whey Cheese recently.
Timboon Agriculture Project co-ordinator Andrea Vallance said the students enjoyed the visit, which allowed them to compare the similarities and differences between the camembert cheese they made in the Year 8 classroom and the cheese produced by an artisan cheese maker.
“A passionate advocate for the Australian dairy industry and protecting the environment and land his 250 cows graze on, Julian hosted us as we toured the dairy facility and tasted the range of Apostle Whey Cheese,” she said.
“Julian described the changes to his business over the years and how it pivoted to take advantage of the numerous visitors who were enchanted with the scenic attractions in our area.
“As our students are composing an ad for their camembert cheese studies, Julian described the marketing of his products and the importance of telling a story, using humour to sell products, attractive packaging and using features to evoke happy memories of peoples’ time in the south west to encourage future sales.”
Cheese makers Megan Finlayson and Deborah Ranger were on hand to describe the various cheese making processes and ingredients as students tasted Apostle Whey’s range of camembert, brie, semi hard, blue vein and fetta cheese.
“Julian encouraged students to believe in themselves and to find what you love doing as you will enjoy it and learn a lot,” Mrs Vallance said.
