Road rehabilitation now complete on Cobden-Lavers Hill Road near Simpson
FOLLOWING 12 months of campaigning for upgrades, a section of road near Simpson saw repair works completed last week.
The stretch of road on the outskirts of Simpson on Cobden-Lavers Hill Road saw speeds reduced to 60 kilometres following a series of accidents.
A community petition which was tabled in parliament saw hundreds of signatures gained calling for action on the road.
Repair works on the road were completed last Thursday, with road crews using high-pressure water blasting to remove excess bitumen from the road to increase traction and skid resistance.
“We’ve recently completed work to improve the road surface on Cobden-Lavers Hill Road near Simpson and returned the regular 80km/h speed limit,” Department of Transport and Planning executive director Barwon South West and Grampians Michael Bailey said.
The Department of Transport and Planning will continue to monitor the site and see if any further works are needed.
Road users and the wider community are encouraged to report any concerns about the road network by calling 13 11 70.
