Power prepares for finals
AS the finals series draws nearer, Kolora Noorat netballers are gearing up for a tough few weeks on the courts.
With four of the club’s six sides still in the mix for a finals berth, senior coach Laura Bourke said she was thrilled with how the season was progressing for all teams.
“We’re really proud of all our sides, not only those who look like they may be playing finals, but also our A reserve and 15 and unders who are out of contention but who have show great improvement during the season,” Bourke said.
“A grade is sitting fourth, B grade is seventh but only a game out of the five, the 17s are third and only a game behind ladder leaders Allansford while the 13s are seventh but just percentage out of the five.
“So it’s all very exciting and I’m absolutely thrilled with how we’re travelling.”
Reflecting on last week’s nine goal loss to Timboon (50-41), Bourke said the Demons simply were the better side on the day.
“Full credit to Timboon, even without their playing coach they really took it up a notch and played really well,” Bourke said.
“There wasn’t anything specific that we did wrong, or were lacking, it just wasn’t our day.
“We’ve now got a pretty tough run home but I think that will prepare us well for finals.”
The side will face ladder leaders Nirranda this Saturday, followed by Dennington, Merrivale and Russells Creek.
“We won’t put too much pressure on ourselves on Saturday, we’ll just concentrate on our game and see how we go,” Bourke said.
“It’s always a really good game against Nirranda, they’re a quality side and we will take the positives from that match and move forward.”
Other results on the netball courts for the Power last weekend were:
A reserve – Timboon defeated Kolora Noorat 33-27.
B grade – Timboon defeated Kolora Noorat 29-22.
17 and under – Timboon defeated Kolora Noorat 45-41.
15 and under – Timboon defeated Kolora Noorat 33-19.
13 and under – Kolora Noorat defeated Timboon 22-17.
Kolora Noorat’s senior footballers currently sit seventh on the ladder, with only percentage separating them from Dennington in fifth and Panmure in sixth.
Last Saturday’s clash with the Demons was a tough one for the side, going down by 66 points, 4.6.30 to 13.18.96.
Best for the Power were Caleb Kavanagh, Jack Vaughan, Harry Stuart, Oscar Curran, Nick Marshall and Taj Podjer.
Eitan Brooks, Louis Cahill, Taj Podger and Aaron Robertson each kicked a goal.
In the reserves, the Power held on for a slim two point victory, 5.7.37 to 5.5.35.
Oscar Ritchie kicked three goals for the side while team-mates Fraser Guthrie and Brad Holmes added one each.
Among the best were Jacob Kenna, Richie, Craig King, Paul McSween and Bradley Lucas.
The Power’s under 18s currently sit seventh, one game out of the five, after last weekend’s 22-point loss to the Demons, 3.9.27 to 7.7.49.
Best for the side were Ted Kenna, Oscar Ritchie, Byron Ward, Ethan McMaster, Levi Cootesmith and Lucas Castersen.
Ritchie kicked two goals while Ted Kenna contributed one.
Round 15 this Saturday will see Kolora Noorat host Nirranda.
