McSween wins fourth title
CALLUM McSween has continued his run as the Terang Table Tennis Association’s A grade champion, winning his fourth consecutive title.
McSween had a tough workout in the round robin stage, where he had to overcome Vesha Chapagai in five games 11-7, 7-11, 8-11, 11-5, 11-3.
He then defeated Colin Venn in four games, of which the first three games were very close.
McSween followed up with a straight-games win over Pat Nicholson.
On the other side of the round robin, Mark Smith won his three games to finish on top of his section.
He had three very close games against Tony Young 12-10, 12-10, 11-9.
Michael Pearson took Mark to four games and son Tyler took him to a fifth game which he won easily.
In the cross-over, the top player played whoever finished second in the other group.
McSween played Tony Young and after two close games, McSween powered away to win 14-12, 13-11, 11-4.
Mark Smith then played Vesha Chapagai and won his three games convincingly.
McSween again proved too strong in the final, winning in straight games to clinch the title.
In B grade Ian Rochfort defeated Kim Anderson in four games and John Rantall in three.
In the other group, Ron Cook defeated Shai Karney in four games and Sandra Timmons in four games.
With the cross-over, Rochfort played Karney and was victorious, while John Rantall defeated Ron Cook in four games to reach his first final.
In the final, Rantall took the first game 11-7 however, Rochfort came back to win 11-2, 11-7, 11-5.
Finals will start this week, with Rhono’s playing I Don’t Care and TIC against Battlers.
