Nomination: Timboon local Kate Makin has announced she will renominate in the upcoming Corangamite Shire Council elections.

She will be running in the Lake Elingamite ward which includes Timboon, Dixie, Ecklin, Glenfyne and surrounding areas.

“I have been a councillor for the past four years and the mayor for the past 12 months,” Cr Makin said.

“I am committed to making our community stronger and more vibrant.

“I like to focus on removing the barriers to us having a stronger thriving community.”

She said there will also be constant requirements to lobby State and Federal Governments for support.

Cr Makin said her campaign focuses on three key priorities.

She said she will advocate strongly for improved sporting facilities, for young people and especially for women and girls.

Cr Makin said the push will include advocating for resurfacing of the Timboon Recreation Reserve netball courts.

“Our sporting facilities are vital for community health and unity,” she said.

“Upgrading these courts will ensure our athletes have the best environment to train and compete.”

The remaining key priorities for Cr Makin are working to preserve high-value dairy land in south west Victoria as well as securing extra childcare facilities.

“Our dairy land is crucial for our economy and way of life,” she said.

“I’ll fight to support sustainable farming and protect our agricultural heritage.

“Families need reliable, affordable childcare. Investing in these facilities will support working parents and give our children a strong start in life.”

Cr Makin hopes to continue to build a better future for the Lake Elingamite Ward and Corangamite Shire.

“I hope to continue the work we have started,” she said.

“At the local government elections this October I will be asking for your support, your ideas, and your vote.”
