Guest speaker shares stories
ROTARY Club of Cobden members hosted a special guest speaker recently.
Guest speaker: Derrinallum’s Neil Brown shared stories and photographs from Antarctica with members of the Cobden Rotary Club.
Club member Gary Kimber said Derrinallum’s Neil Brown spoke about his five working stays on various bases is Antarctica.
“Neil is a plumber and one of three on Mawson base. The base had 30 people doing various jobs,” he said.
“Temperatures ranged from -30 in winter to around zero in summer where the sun never set.
“Obviously supplies were shipped/flown in and water quite amazingly could become scarce and at times was rationed.”
Mr Kimber said Mr Brown had showcased some “fantastic” photos of the bird and animal life of Antarctica.
“A great presentation and the club was delighted to host Neil,” he said.
