Gillin Foundation donates second $100,000

THERE was plenty of action at Heytesbury Stockfeeds Simpson Speedway last weekend – on a night which saw Jamie Veal take out the Victorian 410 Sprintcar title and the Gillin Boys Foundation donate a second $100,000 to the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute.

Saturday night’s ‘Green Night’ provided spectators with plenty to see both on and off the track.

With a later start due to the day’s extreme weather conditions, spectators were treated to a night of thrills and spills.

The main event on the program saw Veal retain the title for another season as he took the chequered flag ahead of Brett Milburn, with Brenten Farrer in third.

Despite a low number of entries, the field was loaded with talent and drivers put in some of the best racing seen so far this season on what was a well-prepared track.

Aptly named ‘Green Night’ the meet also saw Warrnambool-based Muscular Dystrophy Awareness and Fundraising organisation, the Gillin Boys Foundation, present $100,000 to the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute.

This was the second $100,000 donation presented in the past 12 months.

The volunteer-based organisation, now in its fourth year, has been working extremely hard to bring awareness of Muscular Dystrophy to the forefront in the local community and beyond as well as raising much needed funds towards research, clinical trials, and treatments for Muscular Dystrophy.

When combined with the money raised by the Gillin family prior to becoming a foundation the total is close to $500,000 donated to research into Muscular Dystrophy since 2016.

Gillin Boys Foundation chairperson Daniel O’Keefe, vice chairperson Jessica Nolte and committee member Ashley Gillin welcomed Murdoch Children’s Research Institute Scientists Chantal Coles and Peter Houweling to Simpson Speedway to make the presentation.

Simpson Speedway commentators Garry Ross and Ben Swanson joined in the fun of ‘Green Night’ – fulfilling their pledge to dress up if $2000 was raised.
