Fundraising pledge could tip Wannon independent

WITH early polling data showing the 2025 federal election is looking likely to deliver a hung parliament, a local farm has made a financial pledge to help tip Wannon independent with a belief more could be achieved.

On the trail: Alex Dyson’s campaign to flip Wannon independent has received a major financial pledge from a local farm as early polling suggests a hung parliament looms.

Early data shows Wannon is too close to call as the Liberal Party looks to hold off the surge local Independent Alex Dyson has gained, which threatens to tip the seat out of Liberal hands for the first time in more than 60 years.

Early polling data as candidates begin launching ahead of next year’s election, to be held on or before September 27, points to a hung parliament as the most probable outcome of the upcoming election.

Mr Dyson believes the hung parliament could be a chance to elect a candidate who could hold the balance of power, directly influencing national decisions in favour of regional priorities.

While the early polling will be a point of frustration for Labor and Liberal alike, it is a result minor parties and independents see as an avenue to deliver results should their electorate choose to cast votes in their favour.

In a hung parliament the party forming government would require the support of crossbenchers to pass key legislation, giving minor parties and independents significant leverage.

Voters are more likely to vote independent or for minor parties as hung parliaments loom, with concerns partisan politics from the major parties will result in little being done until Australians can head back to the ballot box.

Mr Dyson, fresh off a successful campaign launch and opening of a new community hub in Warrnambool, said he can see opportunity to shape key government policies and ensure the voices of local communities are not drowned out by the major parties.

“A hung parliament flips the script on the “independents have no power” narrative, and the recent data shows south west Victoria is now in the box seat to finally secure the investment and attention that Wannon deserves,” he said.

South west Victorian farmers Mark Wootton and Eve Kantor from Jigsaw Farms so strongly believe in the difference an independent can make, they’ve made a significant financial pledge to support the Dyson campaign and help flip Wannon for the first time in the electorate’s history.

“After meeting with Alex and seeing first-hand his personal integrity and his commitment to the community, Eve and I are delighted to make this pledge: for every new individual donor who gives over $10 to the Independent for Wannon campaign, we will donate an additional $50 to help spread word of the opportunity this election presents for our area,” Mr Wootton said.

“We know the power communities can have when they rally together.

“We see this as a chance to encourage our fellow locals to see the value for Wannon of electing an Independent at this unique point in time.

“Alex provides a fresh approach for Wannon, a genuine independent local candidate who truly listens to the voices and needs of the Wannon electorate and most importantly could have real power to act on these voices that have been for too long forgotten by the old political parties.

“Alex is a shining beacon of hope and will bring much-needed change to Wannon.”

With a target of 1000 new local donors, residents can capitalise on this pledge by visiting Alex Dyson’s campaign website.

Mr Dyson said every contribution helps the local campaign compete with the major party’s election war-chest and assists in building a stronger, more independent Wannon.
