All smiles: St Thomas’ Primary School students have welcomed the completion of construction on a new undercover area after the school’s Parents and Friends Association raised over $31,000 during last year’s major fundraiser.

The school’s undercover court area was resurfaced over the school holidays thanks to the Parents and Friends Association hosting a fundraising auction last October, which went on to raise $31,501.

School principal Matthew Uzkuraitis thanked the wider community, and those organising the fundraiser, for their generosity in supporting infrastructure improvements for the students.

“Our Parents and Friends Association are very strong and do a lot of fundraising throughout the year, including the major fundraiser through the auction,” he said.

“The money we raised has gone towards getting the new court.

“The support we got from our Parents and Friends Association, the community and the local businesses who donated goods was fantastic.

“This is the result, and the kids are thoroughly enjoying playing on the new court.

“We’re very fortunate to have a strong Parents and Friends Association who work so hard to provide things the kids can enjoy and benefit from – and we’ll do the same again this year in fundraising for something the kids need.”

The school will host its first fundraiser of the year on Tuesday, March 4 with the traditional Big Breakfast event from 6.30am to 9pm.

Volunteers will be cooking up a feast with pancakes, egg and bacon rolls, toast, fresh fruit, coffee, tea, juice and an open invitation for anyone to come along and grab a delicious breakfast from just $12 per adult, $10 for secondary students, $5 for primary student or $30 per family.

“It’s not a major fundraiser but it starts off our fundraising for the year,” Mr Uzkuraitis said.

“The Big Breakfast has probably been running for over 20 years and it’s important on the church’s calendar, starting the Lentin period, but also as a great way to get the whole community together.

“The original idea was to get everyone together to have a meal - to share breakfast together – and it’s no different now.

“We encourage anyone and everyone to come along on Shrove Tuesday, see what the court looks like and enjoy breakfast.”
