Bridge replacement underway on rail trail
KEY upgrades to two bridges along the popular Camperdown-Timboon Rail Trail got underway this week.
Work began on bridge 14 and 15 – which are the two closest to the Trestle Bridge – on Tuesday.
Camperdown-Timboon Rail Trail Committee chairman Pat Robertson was pleased the works have begun.
She said the section was expected to be closed until December.
“We are looking forward to it. It will be great to have them done,” Mrs Robertson said.
The works on bridges 14 and 15 were costing more than $500,000, representing a significant investment in the trail.
Mrs Robertson said funds for the two bridges was thanks to the Regional Development Victoria, Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) and Corangamite Shire Council
“We are grateful to be in the position to be able to do them,” she said.
“We are sorry for the inconvenience, but the bridges need to be desperately done.”
While the works are occurring the rail trail will be closed between Merretts Road, Glenfyne and the bridges.
Trail users are able to make use of the trail from the Trestle Bridge side up until the bridges.
Bridge 13 also needs to be replaced, with the committee working to raise funds to see the project completed.
